It was October 31st when Bethany Hamilton had lost her left arm while she was surfing. A 14 ft tiger shark bit her while she was surfing. Bethany Hamilton had learned how to surf when she was only 5 years old. She was born in North Shore Kauai. Her parents are both great surfers. Bethany Hamilton is brave, athletic, and determined.

Bethany is very brave. One example is that she showed her bravery when the tiger shark bit her. She wasn’t scared. She didn’t panic when the shark bit her, even when blood came pouring out of her arm. Another example is that Bethany Hamilton didn’t give up, when the shark bit her. She is also brave because she overcomes her fear when she lost her arm. Bethany Hamilton is very brave.

Bethany Hamilton is also athletic. One reason she is athletic is that she goes surfing almost every day. Another reason is that she enjoys surfing. She is also athletic because she goes to a lot of competitions. Bethany Hamilton has also won some of the competitions. One of the competitions that she won was the 2001 Haleiwa Menehune Championship. Bethany Hamilton is very athletic in many ways.

Not only is Bethany Hamilton brave and athletic, she is also determined. Bethany Hamilton is very determined because she competes in a lot of competitions. One example of Bethany's determination is that she didn’t give up when she lost her arm. She taught herself how to surf with one arm. When she did teach herself how to use one arm she started entering competitions. Even with one arm she still has won some of the competitions. One competition she won with one arm is the ESPY award. Bethany Hamilton is very determined when it comes to surfing.

Some interesting facts about Bethany Hamilton: her parents moved to Hawaii from the U.S. Another fact is that Bethany Hamilton has been participating in competitions ever since she was in grade school. Another interesting fact is when the shark bit her, she lost 70% of her blood and people ask her why she didn’t give up surfing. She said that God was watching over her. People are having fundraisers to get Bethany Hamilton a prosthetic arm. Bethany Hamilton is brave, athletic, and determined. She is my hero because she showed me not to be afraid when bad things happened. Also she taught me to be brave. Bethany Hamilton taught me something that is very important. I learned that I should never give up and keep working on the things I want to do. I also learned to be brave and overcome my fears.
