Helen Keller was a woman who grew up having a very difficult life but still achieved many things. On June 27, 1880, Helen Keller was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama. Helen was born with normal hearing and sight just like many other people. But in February 1882 Helen’s life changed dramatically. Helen suddenly fell seriously ill. The doctor at this time called it brain fever. Helen was expected to die but she pulled through it. But then Helen starting losing her sight and hearing, she wasn’t responding to anything. Helen’s illness has left her both blind and deaf. Part of the reason that Helen Keller is my hero is because she pulled through the illness that could have led to an early death.
One of the most amazing things that made Helen my hero was her ability to learn. Helen learned how to understand what people were saying by feeling their mouths and throats move. Just by Helen learning how to understand what people were saying she was soon able to read in Braille. After learning how to read Helen was able to write with both a regular and Braille typewriter. Helen’s speed of learning left many people astonished. Helen’s ability to learn made many people interested in her learning. This way one of Helen’s big breaks to because a famous women.
Helen Keller had a very difficult life but she still managed to pull through it. She also managed to achieve many things. She received some awards too. In 1964 Helen received the presidential Medal of Freedom, the nations highest civilian award. Even though Helen could not see or hear, she still entered in Radcliffe collage. She was the first deaf/blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. Helen and her teacher, Anne Sullivan, toured the world and gave lectures, speaking about their experiences and beliefs. Helen achieved many things that not many people would have done in her situations
To me Helen Keller is a hero. There are not many people in this world that would even do half of the things she has done being blind and deaf. Helen also wrote many books on her life. For example, in 1905 she wrote “The World I Live in.” After that in 1913 she wrote another book called “Out of the Dark.” Helen seems as if she never had intentions on giving up, in anything that she was faced with. To me that is a hero.
Helen Keller is a woman who went through many things during her life. She has achieved many things that not many people would have ever tried to do in their lives. Helen tried helping other people with the same problem. Helen has all the characteristics that a hero should have. She helped other people, helped herself, and she also pulled through a very hard sickness. Helen Keller is a hero in my eyes.
