James Hird

James Hird is the captain of the Essendon football club. He was born of the 4th of February 1973. His Guernsey number is 5 and made his debut in 1992. He’s played 205 games and has kicked 298 goals. He weighs 90 kg and his height is 188cm.

He has won many medals such as a Brownlow medal, three Anzac day medals, the best and fairest in 1996, 1995,1994 and 2003 and a rising star nominee in 1993, plus a Norm Smith medal in 2000.

James Hird has many qualities and strengths such as: great courage, leadership, determination, spirit, skill level, vision of ball smarts, he can play all positions and he has the ability to bring the best to his team mates.

We class James Hird as our hero because he is inspirational, a great leader, fair, selfless and a legend to the game of football. We can learn to show leadership and sportsmanship from James Hird.
