A boy name Iqbal Masih that was 4 years old had a big brother that was having a wedding. Then Iqbal's mother sold him to a carpet factory for $12. (The father had left the family.) Then Iqbal was 4 years old when he wanted to get out of the factory. He also wanted to free all of the childen from the factory so they all can see their own future. I think he is a true hero because he is not like the cop type of hero, he is a person who really helped the world and who was not paid to do it. He has inspired me that just one kid can make a huge difference in a country. Pakistan is the country Iqbal is from and it would not be the same without him, especially for the kids.
Iqbal was born in Pakistan in 1982 and he died when he was 12 years old due to a gun shot. When Iqbal was 4 his mom sold him for $12 for a factory. Iqbal was very poor and only had a little bit of money. Later Iqbal wanted to free all of the kids in the factory. When Iqbal was getting bigger he got a lawyer to help get the kids from the factory free. In fact Iqbal wanted the kids that got free to go to school to learn some things so when they are older they can help their family.
Iqbal won many awards. He was honored by the International Labor Organization in Sweden, he received Reebok's 1994 Human Rights Youth Action Award, and while in the United States accepting the award, was nominated for ABC's "Person of the Week." After getting his awards. Iqbal Masih brought a lot of attention to the slavery that was happening in Pakistan. He traveled to America and did many speeches about it. He spoke to students and other groups. He told one group that Abraham Lincoln was his role model and in another one of his speeches he said, "I want to do for my country what Abraham Lincoln did for his country". Iqbal Masih had a dream to become a lawyer and free slaves in Pakistan. He never got to see his dream come true but he still inspires children like me.
Because he was a hero Iqbal Masih brought a lot of attention to the slavery that was happening in Pakistan. Iqbal's speeches still live on today. Our world is still cruel and filled with hatred, but because of people like Iqbal, he shows that we can change it. Iqbal was truly an amazing person. He is definitely a great hero.I hope this story will inspire you too like it did to me.
