Sir Isaac Newton

by Siddhakshi from Pune, India

Sir Isaac Newton was born on 4th January, 1643 in Woolsthorpe, located in Linconshire. He was the eldest son of Hanna Ascough. His father, also named Isaac, died shortly before his birth. Newton was placed under his grandmother's care at the age of three, so his mother could remarry and have a second family. As a child, he was considered slightly abnormal and different from other children because of his behavior.

Isaac Newton was removed from school at his mother's return in 1653, to become a farmer. He failed at this task and returned to King's School in Gratham to prepare for his entrance to Trinity College, Cambridge. On June 1661, he left to join Cambridge University.

He was an average student, and graduated in 1665 without any honors. During his period as an undergraduate, he privately taught himself with the works of Thomas Hobbes and other major scientists of that era. In the following months he himself contributed to science with his own investigations and experiments which were first criticized but then realized to be true.

Some of his main works were his theory of gravity, which many believed was discovered after he saw an apple falling from a tree. He also published some of his works, his main being Opticks and Principia. His most famous experiment was the demonstration on the composition of light. Though he did not say so until his books were published, he was discovering algebra and also became mathematician as well as a scientist. After publishing Principia he became more affiliated in social affairs and was elected to the Representative of Cambridge in the Parliament in 1689. In 1703 he was elected the head of the Royal Society until his death in 1727.

Sir Isaac Newton was an intelligent and thoughtful man who believed there was a reason for everything that occurred. I believe that he was a great scientist and an effective contributor to science, alchemy and maths.
