Iker Casillas

Iker is the Son of Maria Del Carmen Fernandez and Jose Luis Casillas. Iker Casillas was born on May 20, 1981 in Mostoles, Spain. Casillas also has a seven years younger brother named Unai who also plays as a midfielder in the world of soccer professionally for a team named CD Mostoles. Iker was very passionate about soccer and remembers how his father had a lot to do with the choice of position he played. Iker started his career at age 10 and was called to play for the first team Real Madrid at age 16. Then from there he inspired himself to keep continuing in his soccer career until today.

In 1996 at the age of 16 he won his first European championship. After that, in 2000 he won the Bravo Trophy which was awarded to him because he was the best soccer player under the age of 21. A major accomplishment was in 2002 when Real Madrid won against Bayer Leverkusen with Iker as goalie from the 67th minute until the end of the game. He saved the team on lots of occasions during that game.

Iker Casillas is one of the best goalkeepers there has been in this world so far. This is because of the talents he has on the field. Personally, what I think about him is that it seems that he is proud of himself for being a hero for his team. Being the captain of the team makes him feel that they trust him and that he will try to keep the team or lead the team to a successful victory. Iker Casillas uses his fame to help people in need. He helps in many charities and has the Iker Casillas foundation, which focuses on helping people who need humanitarian aid. The foundation promotes children's rights and improving children health, helps abandoned children and their quality of life. He also helps organize charity events with other famous players to help with the fight against Malaria. One of them is Plan Internacional Charity in Mali and Peru and he has been working lately in United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

I chose Casillas because he plays for my favorite soccer team from Europe, Real Madrid. What I've learned about him is that he has been and important figure in Europe. He has inspired me to never give up and that hard work pays off. My opinion on why I consider him a hero is that he has played in so many championships, tournaments, etc and that he has contributed to his teams' championships at all times. When a person on his team scores he has to touch the cross bar of his own goal.
