Jump Rope For Heart

by Liza B. from Mooresville

I choose these people to be my heroes because they have saved the lives of children.

My hero is a group of people who help kids with heart problems. It is called Jump Rope For Heart. I know Jump Rope For Heart because at my school we help fundraise with them. Jump Rope For Heart is a national fundraising program that is sponsored by AAHPERD (American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance) and AHA (American Heart Association). It is a valuable program that promotes physical activity, heart healthy living and other things to children. It is targeted to schools to help raise the money. The money does not go to the people that work there for their paycheck. It actually goes to help heart problems for kids. The people that work at the schools can choose if they want to do JRFH ( Jump Rope For Heart) and they are not forced to do the program.

The history of JRFH started in the late 1970s. Jean Barlow was the first person to hold a rope-a-thon. She held this at Milwaukee Riverside High School. Later she attended an AAHPERD conference in Chicago where she talked about her event. These people have been giving and honest. They are giving because they give money to kids.

This corporation is my hero because it saves the lives of children. I think these people are kind-hearted, because they have tried to help kids with heart problems. JRFH has changed my life and others by doing two things: They changed my life by helping kids that have heart problems and give kids fun exercise. The way they have changed other kids lives is by saving their lives, and from having heart attacks that can kill them. If Jump Rope For Heart council members are reading this, thank you for your help!

Some kids come home with a paper for fundraising to help kids and Jump Rope For Heart. Once you raise enough money, like five dollars, you get a prize. If you are a kid that is reading this you should not just do it for the prizes, you should do it for kids like you!

Readers, you can learn from this and help other kids at www.heart.org/jump and you can make your own webpage if you're a student! You can also go to your school's webpage and you can send ecards, and emails.

My hero inspires me to help kids with heart problems. I love that they help kids with heart problems, like my friend named Anigha who has a relative that has a hole in her heart.
