Imagine a normal fifteen year old, just like any of us. We all do fairly average things such as going to sports practice, going to school, and hanging out with friends. Jack Andraka also did this, but unlike any of us, he found a new way of treating pancreatic cancer. Not only was it more efficient, it was almost one hundred percent likely to determine different stages of the disease, (He's 16, still in braces and btw he's invented a test for cancer). He had many inspirations along the way to help him. Andraka was fifteen years old when he decided to study how to find treatments for pancreatic cancer. Jack Andraka had grown up with an older brother who always inspired him to achieve great things. Since he had considered his brother a role model, when his brother went to science fairs, he went as well. Once while at a competition, Jack Andraka noticed someone named Amy Chyao. She had "an amazing experiment that used light energy to activate a drug that kills cancer," (Andraka 48). He knew that he too could make a difference and help change the way cancer was treated. He was first inspired to do this when a close family friend became diagnosed with a stage of pancreatic cancer that was too difficult to treat. A hero like Jack Andraka must always be willing to do things for others. Also, they need to be able to come up with new ideas that will positively influence others. Jack Andraka, a teen scientist, used his rejection to inspire him to be innovative and charitable while reaching out to others.

Jack Andraka is seen to be charitable while working with others to find a more effective way to detect pancreatic cancer. Andraka knew that he needed to help so, "he started working on the idea because he knows several people who have died of pancreatic cancer, including an uncle and a friend's brother," (Cancer test wins top science fair prize). He believed it was not fair because the cancer would always win, (Andraka). Jack Andraka really saw how this disease affected people. He felt the need to reach out since, "the disease killed both a family member, and his hero, Steve Jobs," (He's 16, still in braces and btw he's invented a test for cancer). Once he realized this, Jack Andraka knew he had to make a change. He started volunteering in labs so he could learn to understand some of the materials that were available to him. As a result of this, Andraka set out to create a new test. Since pancreatic cancer is such a tough disease to get through, he never wanted anyone to have to go through what his uncle did. Since Andraka was always charitable while working to find a cure, he had to be able to quickly come up with solutions that would benefit all patients.
Jack Andraka used his innovative mindset to create a test that would really changed the way pancreatic cancer was treated. Jack Andraka claims that he, "wanted to do something that would have a real impact on people's lives," (Cancer test wins top science fair prize). Since Jack Andraka felt the need to do something for others such as devoting his childhood to studying a disease, he would be considered a hero. He knew that he needed to do something to change the way this disease was looked at. His new goal was to come up with something that could change the way cancer was treated. Also, Jack Andraka can be seen as innovative when it becomes apparent, "that aged 15 Jack Andraka discovered a near-100 percent accurate test for pancreatic cancer that diagnoses early enough to ensure an almost 100 percent chance of survival," (He's 16, still in braces and btw he's invented a test for cancer). From prior research, he knew that there was almost no chance of survival for these patients. Andraka had observed that most patients had always been diagnosed too late, meaning there was almost no chance of a cure. This creates a false sense of hope for the patient. In Jack Andraka's mind, patients with cancer should have a better chance of survival. Due to this, he was inspired by someone he looked up to. Andraka's ability to always be innovative, led him to create great things that affected everyone for the better.

Jack Andraka continuously showed how his ability to be innovative and charitable while working to create a much more efficient way of treating this disease. Since Jack Andraka lost many people he knew to pancreatic cancer, he had to help. As an effect, he came up with a much better way to diagnose this illness.Andraka's whole life consisted of being bullied. He felt the need to prove his bullies wrong, since they told him he would never create anything meaningful in his life, (Andraka). Jack Andraka has helped many people, just by writing a book. It has been said that, "Some of the people who read [his book] might live longer because Jack Andraka has come up with what promises to be a better way of detecting pancreatic, ovarian and lung cancers," (Cancer test wins top science fair prize). This shows how much of an impact that he had on others. His book could have easily changed the lives of patients. Ever since he was little his parents knew that he would create something meaningful, (Andraka). Whether he was winning first place at a science fair, or creating a new experiment out of his everyday activities, Jack Andraka was all along determined and motivational. Those who have the determination to help others always do great things. Since Jack Andraka was young, he believed that he could create something amazing, despite what others had said. Andraka inspires me and others to because he was never afraid to give up. His characteristics helped him in the stress and journey that he went through. The mindset that Andraka continuously showed throughout his life proves to me that he is a real hero.
