I always wonder, what makes a person a hero? When I grow up will I become a hero? A hero is a person who helps the world be a better place. A hero needs to be smart, strong in feelings, polite, and kind. Usually, heroes invent things, like Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, but sometimes heroes help people do things they are not allowed to do, like Malaya helped girls go to school. Another type of hero fights for the equal rights for their country, like Joan of Arc.

Joan of Arc was a little girl who died for the freedom of her country, France. That is why she is a hero to me. First, Joan of Arc helped the Dauphin King of France. Because of that, the Dauphin made Joan the leader of France's army. Joan of Arc won a lot of battles but, on May 30, 1431, she died because the English caught her and she was sent to stand in fire. I think Joan of Arc is a very good symbol of independence for France. So, maybe on the top of the Eiffel Tower, they should put a statue of her!

Joan of Arc was born on 1412 in Domremy, a city in northern France. England and France had been been fighting for 80 years. Then one summer day in 1424 something strange happened, Joan of Arc started to see angels! The angels visited her for 2 years giving her messages saying, ''You should save France," or 'Be good for God loves you." The sweet voices melted all her fears away. As a result, Joan became very holy and started to believe she could save France. On February 24, 1429 Joan of Arc went to visit the Dauphin, the son of the last French king, to make him king of France. (Everyone hoped the coronation would make the Dauphin kind and brave, but it didn't happen.) Furthermore, the Dauphin promised her that she would lead the French army. The Dauphin showered her with splendid armor, a magnificent white horse, and enough servants for a knight. Joan of Arc won at New Orleans, Rhenish, and other small towns. But eventually she started to lose in the battles. Then, in Compile, Joan was captured. The English people threatened her to wear a dress and go to prison but, Joan of Arc didn't want to disobey the Angels more than she had already had and decided to die instead. On May 30 1431 she died even though she was 19 years old. Now, even after 575 years France is free!!!

Joan of Arc was a hero in France. Now, there are hundreds of statues of her in France. When I grow up I want to became a hero like her. But, I will not fight for the freedom of my country, I would give money to charity because always I notice that when an animal gets hurt you feel sorry for it and feed it and give it water. But when other people get hurt, then other people think it is yucky. I want to help those people. I want to help make the Earth a better place just like Joan of Arc.
