Jay Chou

Hi! My name is Lydia. I am 15 years old and I live in Jakarta. I am in the tenth grade of St. Ursula Senior High School. Now, I will tell you about my hero. He is Jay Chou. I think you must have heard about him, right? Jay Chou is my hero because he is different from the others, and he is very special to me.

Jay Chou was born on 18th January 1979 in Taipei. His height is 173 cm and he weighs 60 kg. He can play all sorts of musical instruments such as piano, guitar, violin and cello. He has many hobbies such as collecting hats, writing songs, singing, and playing basketball. He could even compose a song with his own imagination. Jay combines Western and Chinese music then changes it into R&B, pop, and rock songs. He also became an artist in a movie which he produced himself.

His music career didn’t seem to go well back then. His mom was a high school teacher and his dad was a biology teacher. Since he was 4, he showed his ability about music. So he took piano and cello courses. His dreams were to become a singer and a film producer. Then, at the age of 15. He started to improvise songs and even writes his own lyrics. At first he didn’t plan on becoming a singer, because he thinks that he is shy and not that handsome. But after launching his first album on 2000 called ’Jay’ he became famous and popular not only in China, but also in other states until Southeast Asia.

Since 2000, he started to release one album each year. Each of his albums was sold until millions of copies and they even gave him an award. After that, he released 8 more albums. And his last album was released on 2007 called ‘Jay Chou On the Run’. His last album was really fascinating and won an award for the Chinese top ten albums.

So the reason that I choose Jay Chou as my hero is because, I think he is different from all other artist. He has his own style on composing and singing music. He is also very talented since he was small, even though he had a hard time, but he never gave up on his dreams. He really impressed me through his albums and his voice. Because I think his voice made me feel relaxed and enjoyed. Jay is not just an artist, neither a hero to me, but he is someone who really inspires me to never give up on developing my talents. And because of his hard work, all his dreams came true. That’s why he is very special to me.
