In honor of Jacques Cousteau, I did research about this hero in “Biography Today.” I chose Jacques Cousteau because he was an ocean explorer. After the research, I was glad I did because I learned so much about him.
Who knew such a normal beginning would give the world such a hero? Jacques was born in June 11, 1910. He was born in St. Andre-de-Cubzac, near the port city of Bordeaux in Southwestern France. His parents Daniel P. and Elizabeth Cousteau were residents of Paris, but they had returned to their native town for the birth of their second son. His dad was a lawyer and was a son of a leading businessman. His mom’s, Elizabeth, family had been wealthy wine merchants for generations.

The foundation of heroism is education. For elementary school when Jacques Cousteau lived in New York, he attended Holy Name School in Manhattan. He went to College Stanislas (St. Stanislaus Academy).
Hard work contributes to heroism. As a boy even, he knew that he wanted to spend his life at sea. He made good efforts to be accepted at the Naval Academy. They were a natural development of his dreams. His first assignment was at the French base in Shanghai. He returned to France to train as a navy flier and after his accident was reassigned to a base at Toulon, and then to carrier duty in the Mediterranean. He continued to dive, make underwater films, and work on the problems of breathing under water. In 1952 he retired from the navy and put all of his energy and work into his underwater job. He invented the submarine called the "diving saucer" in 1959. Three years later, he developed underwater research colony. He had a show about his underwater adventures called "The World of Jacques Cousteau.”
Jacques Cousteau is important to mankind and changed the world. He changed the world because he made submarines and he discovered sea life and other sea creatures. He is important to mankind because if he didn’t make a submarine we might have not found different sea creatures down farther in the ocean where the people can’t swim because of the pressure.
