Jonny Craig

by Morgan from Anchorage

My hero would have to be Jonny Craig of the band Dance Gavin Dance. He's been in five different bands: Emarosa, A Skylit Drive, Ghost Runner on Third, Isles & Glaciers, and Dance Gavin Dance. He also did a solo album in 2009 called 'A Dream is a Question You Don't Know How to Answer.' He was born in Abbotsford, British Columbia. At the age of 15 years old Jonny had started a garage band called Westerhalts. In 2001 their first known song was released and was named 'Change, Leisure, and Retirement.' Soon after, he joined the band Ghost Runner on Third and once their first album was released it was recognized by Allmusic. They stated that Craig tends to outshine his band mates.

In the early days of being in Dance Gavin Dance and also in Ghost Runner on Third, Jonny wasn't exactly what you'd call reliable. He'd come to their shows trashed and would either just leave or simply not even show up. Both bands had said that he had overwhelming drug problems. Recently Jonny has cleaned up and is back with Dance Gavin Dance producing a new album.

I think it is quite slim for any sort of star especially a musician, to fix their act. I was surprised to hear he was cleaning up and very happy to hear that he was back with Dance Gavin Dance. It's admirable considering a lot of stars don't clean up even after going to rehab. He's an inspiration to young musicians everywhere. He has a beautiful voice and is influenced by artists such as Aretha Franklin, Boys II Men, and Craig David.
