James Enright

by Keaton from Texas

James Enright, my grandfather, is my greatest hero. I always have lots of fun with him, and he has inspired me to do many things. most of all, he inspires me to be brave when it comes to things that I really don't want to do.

James Enright was born in the Bronx, NY. His parents, Joan and John, came from Ireland. For most of his life, he lived in New York. Then he enlisted in the military before the Vietnam War. When he was in the army, Jim Enright became a Chaplain and was selected for sharpshooter training. Later, he joined American Airlines, and became a critical manager in resolving labor union strikes.

When he was in American Airlines, many things happened to him. First, he was laid off from his job with a young family. Then, he was recruited again and got relocated to a different state leaving his friends and family. After that he was threatened by a disgruntled employee. This all happened in the 35 years he worked with American Airlines. Finally, he retired from American Airlines and created his own consulting.

James Enright is my hero because he demonstrated heroism in the face odd difficulties in his life. He in his everyday life showed the brave, generous, and honest qualities that you would expect of a modern hero. Aside from his other important jobs, he volunteered as an EMT. He once revived a young girl who was not breathing. He also volunteered for the local fire department in Bedford, TX. The greatest act of heroism I think my grandfather performed was when he talked down a man with a gun who was threatening to shoot him. All of these examples show what I think makes up who he is and who he represents.

A lesson that I think we can all learn from my grandfather is with bravery and courage, you become someone else entirely. You become a hero, a guardian, and a role model for people. He is a great example of what a hero should be: brave.
