John Falcone is a true hero because he saved an innocent baby's life and he lost his own. He protected Poughkeepsie, NY, for over 18 years. He died at the age of 44 on February 18th 2011. I chose him why? He is a hero that no one talked about! He saved a baby's life, and he is a local hero around New York.

John M. Falcone was born on January 12th, 1967 in Brooklyn. He is known for sacrificing his life for the City of Poughkeepsie and its people. He responded to a 911 call to gunshots near the train station. He responded and saw an assailant with a 3-year old baby in his hands. He took the baby out of the suspect's hands and gave it to a nearby bystander and he pursued after the suspect by foot to the train station where the suspect pulled out his gun and pointed it at Falcone. Falcone also drew his gun and they were pointing both guns at each other. After a few minutes the backup showed up and covered Falcone but the suspect shot him in the head. The cops that were backup hid behind their doors when Falcone dropped, the cops returned fire and the suspect committed suicide.

John affected people by, saving many lives; the 3-year old will have to grow up in foster care because the baby's mother was shot by the suspect. What John Falcone did saved dozen or more lives. His family had a very tragic loss of their only son, John. He saved many lives of the local bystanders and to the people blocks away, who knew how far the gun man could go?

This influences people to take part in the community and to help save lives such as John Falcone did with that 3-year old baby. This influenced me to take part in the community and its well being. It's good to take part in the community. My view of the world is that the world is sometimes mean/harsh, yet it is very nice. That's why we need more help in the world.

John Falcone was a brave person having a stand-off with the suspect and he risked his life just to save us. That's what also makes him courageous and a risk taker. That's what makes John M. Falcone a true Local Hero.
