Julia Fomina

by Vsevolod from Krasnoyarsk, Russia

Surely, each person has each own hero. I think that hero who is strong, brave and manly. I think heroes should be chosen carefully and attentively. There are two types of heroes - fabulous and real. Fabulous are often in tales, stories and real are in our life. I haven't believed in books since that time when I was a child. I used to worry about the heroes of fairy tales when I was in my childhood.

My hero is Julia Fomina. She rescued the passengers from terrorists but she died. The terrorists shot her during the assault. If she didn't rescue, it would be tens and hundreds of killed passengers. But only three people perished - Julia Fomina, one from 161 passengers and one of 3 terrorists. It is interesting that all of them were from Russia. It was Tupolev-TU154M Vnukovo Airlines with 173 hostages on board. Her husband was Sergey Fomin and also flight attendant. It is specifically was agreed to put Julia on this trip because the flat was quite small and they hadn't got money. Likewise, Julia has a daughter from her first marriage. The wage of flight attendants "Vnukovo Airlines" is tiny. And it was paid only in October of the 2000 year (this story was in 2001). The only way to survive - charters. Sergey asked the manager to put Julia on the Istanbul flight. Manager has proposed: «This is not necessary - it is better for the next». Sergey didn't agree. «If I hadn't asked for ... If I heard the manager ...».

She fought for justice and goodness since childhood. When burglars tried to take away a jacket or when she stood up for the girls or somebody was yanked by the hair.

So fragile and courageous girl is my hero. And I would like that everyone will be like her.
