Ever since September 11, 2001 I have wanted to do something to aid my country. Whether it was in the form of actually joining the military or in the form of creating weapons for our men to fight with. When I was a little kid and I watched T.V. I would flip the channel onto a cartoon right? Well if you agreed, you're wrong. I actually turned it to the Military Channel and the History Channel. I was extremely interested in how our armed forces worked and how we created some of the best weapons out of everyone, and how we have technology that saves our men in the field everyday. One of the events in history that I was most interested in was World War II. I loved learning everything about it, and I still do. I loved learning about how far the United States of America had come in weapons and arms technology since World War 2.

My cause could be worded in different ways, I prefer the name "Arming America." Weapon designers all over the world compete to be the best, and when people in power start taking funds away from our Arms designers we fall behind the rest of the world. Then we have to race back up to spec when we gain the funds back or if we go to war or some kind of battle. This causes extreme pressure on the weapons designer and some times they don't do so well on the weapon they design because of the lack of time and funds. This could cause huge trouble with our men on the field of battle.

My hero of choice is John C. Garand. This man helped the United States of America arm itself for the worst in World War 2. One of John C. Garand's greatest inventions was the M1-Garand, the standardized rifle for the United States infantry. He worked so hard on this weapon that he had 7 different running models as well as hundreds of other models that didn't run of the M1 before he released his final weapon. Most of his life was spent of perfecting this awesome rifle. Garand was born in St. Remi, Quebec, Canada, in 1888, moving to Connecticut at age ten. Working in a textile mill two years later, he soon patented a telescopic screw jack as well as an automatic bobbin winding machine. He later took a job at Brown & Sharpe, a tool-making company in Rhode Island. His design for a light machine gun was eventually chosen U.S. War Department for use by the US NAVY in 1917, landing him a post with the U.S. Bureau of Standards. After the 1917 model, was built in 1919, the 30-year old Garand was hired as a consulting engineer at Springfield Armory, where he become a US citizen.

I strongly believe in this cause and it does me pain every day to think about more of our soldiers dying because they didn't have the right weapons to go into battle properly. I will continue to believe in this cause and I will help out in the future for it. Taking on the responsibility of keeping our soldiers safe is a very stressful job, and the stress would be lifted a little if they didn't have to worry about financial support for their work. I hope you all see where I'm coming from with this and that you have it in your hearts to stand up for this great cause.

Thanks for reading!
