Josh Gates (www.Photobucket.com) |
"Josh Gates was born August 10, 1977 in Gloucester, Massachusetts and is an American adventurer, explorer, photographer, and television personality." (Wikipedia) Gates was born in Manchester-by-the-Sea, where while in high school he was the student body president, and currently resides within Los Angles, California. He has degrees in archaeology and drama from Tufts University, where he graduated with honors in 1999. Also he, as of right now, is the host of the television show Destination Truth on Syfy, a weekly one-hour show filmed in remote locations around the world devoted to the exploration of some of the world's weirdest, and oddest mysteries ever.
"Starting in 2007, Gates has been the host of Destination Truth on the Sci-Fi Channel. The series is now entering its third season. Destination Truth premiered its second season with its best-ever telecast, delivering 1.7 million total viewers and making the show the highest rated second season performance by a reality series on Sci-Fi, ever. Gates has appeared on numerous television programs to promote Destination Truth."(Wikipedia)On the season premiere of season two, Gates and his very advanced team uncovered a series of footprints high in the Himalayas of Nepal while in search of evidence of the Yeti. The prints were cast and analyzed by Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum, a leading evolutionary morphologist. "Preliminary data suggests that the footprints are anatomically legitimate and do not belong to a known primate."(Josh Gates) If anyone ever listens this could be very well the proof of any Yeti, or Bigfoot.

"In addition to being a qualified SCUBA diver, Gates has also summated Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa and climbed Mt. Aconcagua in the Argentine Andes."(Wikipedia).
From 1996-1998 Gates was part of The University of Maryland's archaeological excavations of Caesarea Maritima in Israel. Part of a small SCUBA team, Gates worked with some of the researchers to excavate and better understand the city's ancient fallen harbor. Along with the other numerous field works Gates has done, he has also traveled to at least 71 countries around the world.
Even though the creatures Josh Gates hunts are said to be fake, he still looks for them. I’m inspired by him, because I’ve been into cryptozoology since I was ten years old. I’m happy about his show, because it shows me that he’s not afraid to do what he believes in even though other people think the things he searches for are fake and that he is a crazy person. The only reason he has gone so far in his life is because he went to college; that’s one of the main reasons I intend to go to college. I would like to be like him one day, because I believe one day he will catch a cryptid and prove everyone wrong.

In 2007, Gates hosted a Ghost Hunters Live Halloween special, and in 2008 he made a guest-appearance on the mid-first season finale episode of Ghost Hunters International, where they visited the castle of Frankenstein.
"Gates returned as the host of Ghost Hunters Live in 2008 where he helped the live seven hour broadcast from Ft. Delaware, a civil war POW camp in Delaware Bay, in which he got a very good scare. Both seasons have garnered high ratings and 2008's show made Sci-Fi the #1 cable network in prime-time on Halloween night."(Wiki) He is still leading the front for cryptozoologists everywhere and is still the man I look up to.
