Jeremy Glick

by Jeffrey from Toronto

My hero is Jeremy Logan Glick. He was on flight 93 on September 11th, of the year 2001. Flight 93 was supposed to be one of the four flights that were high-jacked on that terrifying day. Jeremy Logan Glick was born on September 3, 1970. He lived in West Milford, New Jersey, with a wife named Lyzabeth Glick, and a child named Emerson Glick. Jeremy grew up in a Jewish family with five siblings. He attended Saddle River High School in Saddle River, New Jersey.

Jeremy Glick has successfully saved many lives, as the plane was targeted for either the Capitol building or the White House, the exact location is unknown. Since the Capitol building and the White House are both in the center of Washington, the crash would have caused many deaths. On that plane, the passengers had heard of the terrorist attacks that happened that day, and they decided that this high-jacking was going to go to the same cause. So Jeremy Glick decided to take action and stop them. He sacrificed his life for the greater cause by preventing another successful terrorist strike in the United States of America. The passengers successfully altered the terrorist's plans by assaulting them, and trying to enter the cockpit. The terrorists then realized that they would not make it to their intended location without being apprehended and stopped, so they crashed the plane to kill themselves and the passengers. The plane crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania; killing all 33 passengers and 4 crew-men.

This person is considered to me as a hero, as he prevented many deaths from happening; as well as stopping the spread of fear across America, making the citizens of America think that they are not safe. He has also shown tremendous courage and character to stop Al-Qaeda terrorists; he did not know if he was going to come out of this incident alive, before he went into action, which proves that he had tremendous courage, and thought of other people before himself. This helps me gain courage in tough situations, as I can always remember what Jeremy Glick did, and how he saved many lives, while taking his own. It also shows that you should always stand up for what you think is right, and try to put that belief into action. Jeremy Glick believed that what the terrorists was doing was wrong, so he stopped them. He was awarded the Medal for Heroism, the highest civilian honor bestowed by the Sons of the American Revolution.

Extra Info

Jeremy Glick was on the phone with his wife and father in law before the attack on the hijackers. Jeremy told his wife to take care of Emmy (Emerson), their 12-week-old daughter, and "have a good life." His last words were, "We've decided. We're going to do it." He then left the phone on the hook, and his father-in-law listened in on the attack.

Other people believed to be involved in disrupting the attackers plans:
Mark Bingham, Todd Beamer and Tom Burnett.
