Jane Goodall is a hero to me because she was determined to get to Africa to study chimpanzees. Jane studied about chimps, but only in captivity. She wanted to study chimps in the wild. Now, Jane is one of the world’s most famous ethnologists. [People who study animal behavior.]
Jane Goodall's early life was really cool. Jane was born in London, England on April 3, 1934. As a child she was always interested in animals. Jane finally finished High school. After high school she worked with children that had physical disorders. She went to secretarial school at Oxford University in London. After secretarial school she worked at a film studio and made documentary films, which are films that are non fiction. But Jane didn’t forget her dream to go to Africa and study chimps in the wild. And Jane did. She was twenty three years old when she went to Africa. When she got to Africa she worked for Dr. Leakey. Dr. Leakey started Jane’s career with animals. In 1960 Jane finally got to study chimps in the wild.
Jane had to return to England. She also had to save enough money to go to Africa to study chimps. She also had to wait for peace because the fishermen were killing people. Then Jane finally got to go to Africa.
Jane had many contributions. For example, in 1960 she first started to study chimps in the wild. She also changed lives for chimpanzees in zoos and Laboratory testing. Jane also discovered things about chimps that scientists had never discovered. Jane discovered that chimps make their own tools and, that they eat meat.
National Geographic wanted some of Jane’s pictures to go in the magazine. One of them was the National Geographic magazine for kids. The award she received in 2003 is the British Empire award. The other award that she received is the Environment Leader award. In 2004 she received the Nierenberg Prize for science in the Public Interest. As you can see, Jane had many awards.
Jane had many character traits first, she was brave. This is why she is very brave. She slept on the jungle floor with no tent and no campsite. Another example of her bravery is when she let a male chimp take a banana from her hand. Also, rebels kidnapped some of her students, studying chimps was very difficult because she had to worry about her safety. As you can see, Jane is a really awesome person and is a hero. I think you should learn more about Jane Goodall. I don’t think I could do that! Another trait is friendly. She named the chimps and was gentle with them. One of the chimps she named was called, “Graybeard.” The last trait she has is proud. She is proud because she had an opportunity to work with chimps in the wild.
As you can see, Jane is a really awesome person and is a hero. I think you should learn more about Jane Goodall.
