On December 7th, 1997 to December 18th, 1999 in California, Julia Butterfly Hill lived in a tree that she named Luna, to protect it, and all of the redwoods from getting cut down. She would not come down even when Climber Dan threatened to call the FBI on her. She was determined and saved Luna and the redwoods. She was a real environmentalist hero.

Julia got her middle name “Butterfly” from when she was hiking. She was so interested in the butterflies and they liked her too. For all of her life she loved nature and people even called her “Butterfly” as a nickname.

Julia was really determined, which helped her succeed. She wouldn’t stop doing what she believed in, which sparked lots of people's minds. Today, lots of people look up to her for her amazing determination.

Julia inspires us all in many ways, and people learn from her. She did something courageous…now what will you do?
