Jack H. Jacobs is maybe one of the greatest heroes that hardly anyone knows about. He is an unsung hero that stopped at nothing to save the life of his fellow soldiers. Jack H. Jacobs was just an average kid from Brooklyn. He graduated from high school then attended Rutgers University and entered into the school's Reserved Officers Training Corps. Then he entered into the military in 1966 as a second lieutenant. Jack H Jacobs showed his true colors March 9, 1968, when his battalion was ambushed. Jack H. Jacobs is heroic because he saved lives, was dedicated, and he persevered.

Jack Jacobs saved the lives of 13 men. His battalion was ambushed by mortar and heavy machine gun fire. The battalion took heavy casualties, including the battalion commander who was wounded, Jack gave the commander life saving first aid then he pulled him out of the line of fire. He also ran back into heavy enemy fire many times to pull wounded men out of the line of fire and bring them back behind their lines. He was very determined in his efforts. It seemed like there was nothing that would stop him from helping his fellow soldiers.

Jack seemed to fear nothing. He charged into enemy fire determined to save the life of everyone he could. He fought back three enemy patrols, he had three confirmed enemy kills, and wounded many more. After the battalion commander was wounded, Jack took over and regrouped the confused and disorderly men of his battalion. Then he repeatedly charged into enemy fire to save friendly soldiers and gather weapons. During this whole time Jack persevered through fear to save his friends.

He persevered through heavy enemy machine gun and mortar fire, heavy causalities, and a head wound that impaired his eyesight. Jack took shrapnel to his head from an enemy mortar that bleed profusely, which impaired his eye sight in one eye but that didn't stop Jack. He just kept going, he saved 13 men and possibly many more because of his actions of regrouping the men. His heroic actions won him two purple hearts, three bronze stars, two silver stars and the Congressional Medal of Honor. He also became and American hero (I think the battle scene in Forrest Gump is based on his story).

Jack H Jacobs is maybe one of the greatest heroes of all time that hardly anyone knows about. He saved many lives and regrouped his unit. He showed how much one man can do. He showed no fear and looked death in the face on multiple occasions fighting off enemy patrols, charging into enemy fire while wounded, he gave life saving first aid, and took charge under fire. His heroic actions won him the Medal of Honor from President Nixon on October 8, 1969. I think this story shows how one heroic man can save lives, be dedicated, and persevere.
