Jack Johnson is my hero. This essay is talking about the musician, not the boxer. He is my hero because he is Multi-Talented, a humanitarian, and eco-friendly. Throughout this essay you will discover why Jack Johnson is worthy of being called a hero. Jack Johnson was born and raised in Hawaii. He is a member of the Flamin' Groovies. The music he plays is best described as Rock & Alternative. My hero is known for his musical talent and popularity. Before he was known for music he was a professional surfer. The University of Santa Barbara was where he made friends that would change his life forever. This first video that he made, "Thicker Than Water" brought fame to Johnson. The album "Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George" really launched Johnson's fame. Even more than his previous one. Especially since it was a soundtrack for a popular movie. And beating a Disney movie in music sales was a big success. (Jack Johnson Biography AOL Music) The people in the band with Jack Johnson are Jack, who plays guitar and sings. Adam, who plays the drums and percussion. Merlo, who plays bass. And Zach, who plays piano, percussion, and background vocals. Jack Johnson is definitely a hero because he has done so much to help and change the world. He created a charity and donates generously to it. He also spreads love through his music and encourages people to be eco-friendly.

Jack Johnson is a hero because of his humanitarian efforts. After years of generous donations and charity, "On November 4, Jack Johnson will receive the humanitarian award at the 2010 Billboard Touring Awards in New York. The humanitarian award recognizes the philanthropic efforts of a touring musician." (Jack Johnson Wins) Winning the Humanitarian award is a huge honor to win. He has done so much and donated so much to help a lot of people. It takes an incredibly selfless person to do something like that. What Jack Johnson is doing to change the world is inspiring me to become as humble and caring as him. A lot of celebrities and stars are stupid and do dumb things all of the time. But not Jack, he is the kind of person you look up to. In 2008, Jack Johnson went on tour, "Johnson donated 100 percent of his tour profits to local non-profits through a charitable organization he established, the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation, which has generated over $750,000 in donations." (Jack Johnson Wins) Johnson created a charity for the schoolchildren of Hawaii! And his efforts are amazing. He has donated one hundred percent of his earnings from his tours to his charity. You can tell that he really cares about other people. Jack doesn't just spread love through his music, but through kind actions towards others that affect lots of people. If Jack Johnson isn't a humanitarian, I don't know who is. He is definitely one of the most charitable and loving celebrities today.

 Not only is Jack Johnson a successful musician, before his music career he was a professional surfer. Jack is known for his musical talent and popularity. Before he was known for music he was a professional surfer. This is a pretty big accomplishment to achieve and takes lots of hard work and practice over a long period of time. Growing up in Hawaii, Jack grew up with the sport. His father was a well known surfer as well. Jack had finally made it to the big leagues. "When he was 17, Johnson joined the Pipeline Masters competition that almost took his life. He crashed to a reef, lost his front teeth, broke his nose and almost drowned from the shock." While he was surfing the pipeline during a surf competition, He crashed to a reef and almost drowned. This ended his career

as a professional surfer. Jack was probably crushed at this moment. Right after he became what he always had dreamed

of becoming, he ends his career with an almost life-taking accident. His career was blown completely.

Jack Johnson is a hero because he is environmentally clean and supportive. On the island of Oahu where he grew up, "Six years ago, he and his wife, Kim, founded the Kokua Hawaii Foundation, an environmental educational program for Hawaiian schoolchildren." ("Jack Johnson" (articles about)) I think it's really cool that he created a charity with his wife that has become very successful. And he makes regular donations to this charity that he created. Plus it helps out the children of Hawaii! "This year, he's again donating all the profits from his "To the Sea" world tour to charities. And his tour is as green as possible: no plastic water bottles, waste reduction, composting, biodiesel-fueled trucks and buses, local and organic foods, eco-friendly concert merchandise, carpooling and carbon offsets." (Jack Johnson (Articles About)) Making his tour as green as possible wasn't easy! Nut he knew it was the right thing to do. Jack was very selfless by doing this. And donating all of his profits to charity is even more selfless. You make a lot of money while you're on tour, not to mention it is very stressful and exhausting. It was a huge sacrifice for Johnson to donate 100% of the money earned to charity. It just shows how much love this man has for other people.

As Jack Johnson says "People don't know anything about themselves because they're all worried about everybody else." (Jack Johsnon quotes) This quote is very meaningful. It tells people to be themselves. In this world people are constantly nagging people to be something that they're not. Jack Johnson inspires me to be myself. He inspires me to chase my dreams and to overcome obstacles in my way. He influences me to help the environment as he does. And to try to become a better person and a more selfless person as he is. Love is something that these days lots of people don't bother to express. Jack tells everyone that this just isn't acceptable. Love should be common and everywhere. He inspires people to help with the environment, or at least throw away your trash instead of lazily throwing it on the ground. Jack Johnson says in one of his songs "Don't let your dreams be dreams." This means a lot to me. All my life I have dreamed of becoming a musician. Jack inspires me to become this. He inspires me to never give up. He inspires me to spread love and compassion towards others and to do my part with the environment and most importantly, that one person CAN make a difference. Even with small things. He stands out to me from a lot of other singers because of the way he acts towards others. He donates and cares for so many people. It's almost a rarity nowadays. Jack Johnson is a hero. He may not have had the biggest impact on the earth but he is trying as hard as he can. He wants to change the world. And he is. He really is an amazing individual. It is hard to be as selfless as him. If everyone was as loving and giving as Jack the world would be a lot better. Almost perfect.
