John Winston Ono Lennon

John Winston Lennon was born on the ninth of October 1940. He became an English rock musician, peace activist, singer-songwriter, and author who was widely known throughout the world. John Lennon formed one of the most successful songwriting partnerships of the 20th century, with Paul McCartney. As a singer and songwriter he had 27 number one singles on the US Hot 100 chart. Lennon formed The Beatles with previous band members from The Quarrymen, and was eighteen years of age when he wrote his first single, "Hello Little Girl". Lennon later left The Beatles in 1969.

After The Beatles breakup he started his solo career in 1970, and continued it until 1980. He later moved to New York in August of 1971. In December he released Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" which declared "WAR IS OVER!... if you want it". The US Government took a strategic counter-measure against Lennon which would later be referred to as a four year attempt to deport the singer. Lennon was denied a green card until 1976.

On the eighth of December, 1980 Lennon was shot four times in the back at the entrance to the apartment building where he lived. Mark David Chapman had pleaded guilty to second degree murder and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Chapman and had been stalking Lennon since October and earlier that day Lennon had autographed a copy of Double Fantasy him. Two days before his murder Lennon said that he felt he could go anywhere in New York City and feel safe. And in earlier years he was asked how he might die and he replied "I'll probably be popped off by some loony". Lennon’s body was cremated at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York. Some resources have said his ashes were scattered by Ono on Strawberry Fields, on other accounts they said she kept them.

In my opinion John Lennon was one of the most successful singer-songwriters to ever walk this Earth. He stood up for what he believed in and was a very strong peace activist. He will always be remembered.
