National Portrait Gallery / Public domainJuliette Gordon Low is my hero. Daisy, as she was called by her friends and family, was always very athletic. Therefore, as a child she swam, rowed, and played tennis. Also, Daisy could always find a way to get herself into trouble; she was a mischievous child. One time Juliette was pulling taffy with her friends down the street. One of her friends had noticed that the color of the taffy was similar to Daisy's hair. Deciding it was a good idea to braid it into her hair, Daisy went along with it. Slowly, the taffy hardened, leaving poor Daisy forced to cut off all her hair. Her mother was infuriated because it was not at all a feminine look. Daisy didn't think much of it. I chose Juliette Gordon Low as my hero because she was outgoing, inspiring, and shaped girls to change to world into what it is today, a better world.
Juliette Gordon Low was an outgoing figure throughout her entire life. For example, every year on her birthday, Juliette would stand on her head only to prove that she could still do it. She wanted all of Savannah, Georgia, to know that she, Juliette Gordon Low, could stand on her head even though she was one year older. And she did this every year, just in case people would forget, but they never did. Another instance, was when Juliette was older: A man by the name of Sir Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts and the Girl Guides, inspired her to create the Girl Scouts. Less than a year later, Daisy made a call to a distant cousin. She said, "I've got something for the girls of Savannah, and all of America, and all the world, and we're going to start it tonight!" This phone call was the jumpstart to a new lifestyle for the girls of America. Juliette was outgoing in every situation. Never a dull moment with Daisy!
Juliette Gordon Low shaped girls to change the world. Juliette ensured every girl a happy and healthy life by practicing career skills. The main skills were critical thinking, leadership, discovery, and communication. She also encouraged self-reliance and capability by bringing the girls into the great outdoors and getting back to nature. Juliette did activities that exercised these skills. Some activities were trust falls, leaf collecting, and sleep away weekends. Although these may seem small and almost pointless, they did in fact shape girls to change the world for the better, for what it is today.
Juliette Gordon Low was an inspiring woman. For example, at her wedding, one grain of good luck rice flew into her ear, lodging the ear drum. This incident made Juliette legally deaf. Though this would be a major setback for most, it wasn't for Juliette. Juliette didn't let that, or anything else, stop her from pursuing her dreams. Also, Juliette was an hospital aid and helped build a hospital for wounded soldiers, with her mother. It is very inspiring for her to go through what Juliette did and not only be okay, but to be extraordinary.
Unknown author / Public domainJuliette Gordon low is my hero for many more reasons than three. But she was in fact an outgoing figure, she shaped girls to change the world for the better, and was an inspiring woman. Leaving her legacy behind on January 17, 1927, she would never be forgotten. In fact, many people dedicated things to her or did things in her honor and remembrance. For instance, during World War II, a Liberty Ship was named in her honor. Also, she was added to the National Women's Hall of Fame. Two schools were named after her, too! There is an endless list. But it just goes to show how amazing she really was.
