James Oglethorpe

by Baily from New York

They say James is a hero because he established Georgia. He also directed the economic and political development of the new colony, defended its military, and continued to generously recruit settlers in England. He also made friends with the natives so they could do trading with each other.

In James' childhood, his oldest brother and dad went off to battle Queen Anne’s warfare, never to return… He was the tenth child in the family unit. He was wealthy, he was Christian, and his mom was the queen’s aide.*

His Challenges and problems that he faced is that he was attacked at Fort George, he was accused for not chasing the rebel army, a bad virus killed two kids, and Georgia was often attacked by the bothersome pirates. War between Britain and Spain broke out, but later the Spanish fought back and attacked Fort Federica on St. Simons, located off Georgia’s coast.

His contributions were that when he was twenty-six he was the division of the parliament. He also was an English officer; finally he was a Lt. Captain of the Queen’s guard on the recommendation of the Lord’s Argyle and Marlborough. James is honored for his love for people and for being a clever leader. Some of the people that honored him were the author Samuel Jonson, James Boswell and an artist Joshua Reynolds.

You might not know that this man is protective because he protected the settlers from drunken people. He made a colony for the wealthy and made Georgia a high-quality position in favor of England’s army. Furthermore since he was friends with the natives, he could make use of their army. He did this because then Georgia would have twice over what the army would have. James Oglethorpe is also thoughtful because he donated 25,000 to the colony. Also, the foremost plan was for Georgia to be primarily for the poor. He as well established a town in Georgia’s southern border. One additional trait is that this man is daring. I state this because he attacked an island with 2,000 Spanish armed forces on it. The Spanish previously planned about his assault. In addition he fought against brutality of the press Gang. In conclusion James Oglethorpe established Georgia.
