Jeff Parness

A hero should have integrity, passion, confidence, patience, supportive, and sympathy for others. When natural disasters occurred in parts of the United States there was always someone to help them by getting people to donate some food, old clothes, and some toys and soon building his own organization to help these people. That person is Jeff Parness.

Jeff Parness was just an ordinary 45 year old worker in New York until 9/11 when his friend and work partner was killed along with the thousands of other people in the World Trade Center. After the attacks many people from different communities came with volunteers to help the people of New York during their crisis. "9/11 changed all of us forever, but 9/12 changed us just as much," said Parness. "That outpouring of kindness and generosity, to me, was more powerful than the terror that happened the day before." This was Parness' inspiration to make his own organization to help people and he called it New York Says Thank You.This organization sends volunteers from New York City to disaster-stricken communities every year around the the time 9/11 happened. Today more than 7,000 people are in this organization helping others in need.

"On a day that's about destruction ... let's create an organization that's focused on helping people rebuild," he said. "It's our way to really honor the sense of spirit and volunteerism of 9/12." Each year Parness goes to a community that has been In a disaster and he chooses something valuable to rebuild. The projects often hold some significance to the area like a historic church in Indiana, a veterans' home in Texas, and a Boy Scout camp in Iowa. But Parness says that in a way, what's being built really doesn't matter. "It's not about rebuilding structures, it's about building hope."

Jeff parness is a hero because he wanted to help people and the community just like other people helped him and his community. Every year he goes to a place in the US that had been hit with a disaster him and his team of volunteers from everywhere that he helped helps out another Community.

I choose Jeff Parness as a modern day hero because he is doing a lot of good things for people and he needs to be known by other people and not just the people he helped. He should inspire people to do the same.
