The quote, "Nothing is given to man on earth-struggle is built into the nature of life, and conflict is possible-the hero is the man who lets no obstacle prevent him from pursuing the values he has chosen," is a great quote. It means that no one reaches something great without conflicts along the way. Jackie Robinson fits this quote perfectly because of his conflict of racism/segregation. Despite that happening, he still fought to achieve what he wanted to achieve. This quote shows Jackie Robinson's bravery, strength, and determination to succeed. Dealing with heckling fans, threats, and abuse clearly shows his bravery, strength, and determination.
Jackie Robinson was special in many ways. These special qualities made him a hero. Being the first black baseball player wasn't easy for Jackie Robinson. Most people in his situation would have fought back or let their emotions get the best of them, but Robinson had the self-control to ignore everyone. He didn't take the easy way out by quitting and going back to the Negro Leagues. He just went about his everyday business and played the game of baseball. He learned this from a very young age from his mother, Mallie Robinson. The most important event in Jackie's life was in 1922, when his mother kept her cool and didn't fight back after a group of whites burned a cross across Jackie's front lawn. Instead of the family leaving the neighborhood, they persevered through the racism. Whenever bad baseball fans would threaten, or try to affect Jackie on the field or off the field, he would just ignore them with class and go out and play the next game with integrity. Not many people can do that, but Robinson's perseverance helped him keep playing.

Lastly, Robinson's determination separated him from other people. He fought through adversity and always believed in himself. He couldn't have accomplished the feat though without the help of, Dodger owner, Branch Rickey. Branch Rickey convinced the players and as many people as he could to accept Robinson. Rickey was a major part in Robinson's accomplishment, but Robinson himself had the determination to succeed. A perfect example of his determination was one day at Yankee Stadium. It was a World Series game, and Jackie was heckled the whole game including before and after the game. Robinson used his determination to still have a great series despite the mean fans at the park. Robinson's determination was probably his most important quality. Without it, he would not have been able to deal with all of the terrible people out there.
Robinson was a hero in so many ways. His accomplishment paved the way for the way of baseball today. Without Robinson, I am sure that some of the best players like Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, and Bob Gibson would not have even been known. I believe that Robinson also paved the way for Dominicans, Mexicans, and many other countries. He inspired those other countries to work hard to break a color barrier in baseball. No one will ever achieve something in sports as great as Robinson did, but he also helped jumpstart the Civil Rights movement. He could do it all, and don't forget about his playing career. He is a Hall of Famer with a World Series under his belt. From now on, before you step foot on a baseball field thank the people before you that made baseball the beautiful game it is today. Every time you think about this, Jackie Robinson should come to mind first. Without him, baseball would not be baseball.
