My hero is my father, Dr. Jerry Schreibstein. He is an ear, nose, and throat doctor who works in Springfield, MA. He currently works at Baystate Medical Center, Mercy Medical Center, and Mary Lane Hospital. My dad is a hero because he helps people everyday by listening to their problems and helping to solve their problems.

I think my hero was inspired to be a doctor because growing up, both of his parents smoked and he hated the smell of it. He also knew that it caused lung and throat cancer. He always tried to make his parents quit smoking by saying it's not good for them and saying that he hates the smell of it. My father makes a difference everyday by solving people's medical issues and as a surgeon, he treats throat cancer.

To become a doctor, my dad went to college and medical school at Boston University and he trained at the Tufts University/Boston University combined program. He also trained at the following;
* Lahey Clinic
* The Children's Hospital
* New England Medical Center at the Lahey Hospital
* Boston City Hospital
* Head and neck service at the Boston Veterans Medical Center
* University Hospital in Boston.
Additionally, my dad is the chairman of the Board of Governors of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, the National Society of the Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgeons.

Sometimes, people ask, what is a hero? Well, to me a hero is someone who cares about others, who is brave, who is strong, and someone who is a leader. I know that my father has all of these qualities. My father is someone who I will always look up to. He is my hero.
