Joseph Smith is my hero because after he received the plates (the manuscript that the the Book of Mormon was translated from) people tortured him for the plates, he was cursed, but after enduring all that he did he still was strong to what he believed, resilient, and loving.
Joseph Smith was always strong to what he knew was true. "As for the perils which I am called to pass through," Joseph reflected, "they seem but a small thing to me, as the envy and wrath of man have been my common lot all the days of my life. It all has become a second nature to me; and I feel, like Paul, to glory in tribulation; for to this day has the God of my father's delivered me out of them all." (Trials and Persecutions) He would stand strong to what he knew was true even when others would get mad at him and try to hurt him. And when others did try to cause him problems he would stand tall and be the better person. Sometimes people would hurt him or his family. "Few have confronted more antagonism and trials than did Joseph Smith. He was besieged with dozens of unjustified lawsuits and was often in jeopardy of his life. He was poisoned, beaten, tarred, unjustly imprisoned, and once sentenced to die by firing squad. He and Emma seldom had a home of their own, and six of their children died in infancy. Financial difficulties continually plagued the family. "(Trials and Persecutions) He went through many trials in his life, but he never got mad or doubted his friends family of what he knew was true.

Joseph Smith was often beaten and searched for the plates. In doing so he never cursed back or cursed God. "Trials will only give us the knowledge necessary to understand the minds of the ancients. For my part, I think I never could have felt as I now do if I had not suffered the wrongs that I have suffered. All things shall work together for good to them that love God. "(Trials and Persecutions) Even if people would try to harm or bring him down he would not be mad. They have only helped make him stronger. Because people have tried to pull him down he has been able to become a better person. He says that it has made him happier because he has had these trials.
When he was going through all of this he was still kind to everyone no matter who or what they did to him. "If we would secure and cultivate the love of others, we must love others, even our enemies as well as friends." (Trials and Persecutions) He did not just care about his family and friends, but everyone, including his enemy because we all are on the same side. He in everything that happened, he never once doubted God or Christ. "A good man will endure all things to honor Christ." (Trials and Persecutions)
I can not think of anyone else who has lost six children as infants and be tarred and feathered and martyred and been resented as much as he has so loving and true to God and Christ. I know with a surety that he did not lie, or ever instigate a fight because of his meekness and kindness. Joseph Smith is my hero for his unwavering faith in God, his resiliency, and his loving nature.Page created on 7/7/2016 12:00:00 AM
