Jeremy Wade

by Thomas from Mission Viejo

The first time I ever saw Jeremy Wade was when I was watching the Discovery Channel and his show came on. I thought it was amazing for someone to actually have that as a job, fishing around the world and getting paid money to do it. I have always loved fishing and the science of living beings, so this job interests me greatly. The aspect of finding out new things to help mankind is enormous. Who knows if there is a fish or organism in the very deepest trenches in the ocean that humans could obtain and use cross species genetics to cure a terminal disease. He goes around the earth investigating possibly deadly and/or new species or aquatic animals.

A marine biologist has a harder time finding work than other types of jobs. A marine biologist needs to look for any hiring company or university to obtain a job from them; usually this work involves research and testing medicines and studying environmental impacts. Even though it is difficult for a biologist to find work, they tend to reap the benefits of their more specialized work; a common salary for a marine biologist is in the margins of $57,430 thousand dollars annually, according to a study made by this website: http://www.bls.gov/ooh/life-physical-and-social-science/zoologists-and-wildlife-biologists.htm. Wade has a master's degree in Zoology and he has been trained well through on the job experience. The future of a career in Marine Biology has a very steady outlook, for mankind is forever intrigued and will want answers. Recent developments in the field have enabled the scientist to go deeper and search farther into the deepest crevices and on the ocean floor. Other careers like it will also be in high demand such as bio-mechanics and biology

When Wade was young he was very active and outdoorsy. He enjoyed going down to the local pond and stream to catch and examine fish he happened upon. He uses techniques he learned as a child to handle and examine the fish safely. He always manages to return a fish to its waters unless it is dead or would die. He graduated college with a zoology degree and has taught biology for at least a year. He also, while in South America, discovered a new species of Arapaima fish.

When my hero is in another country, usually he is there to examine an interesting, elusive, or dangerous fish. He educates other people of the dangers of the fish and other animals in their waters. He also tells them that these animals need to be protected from harm and the only reason people die is because they enter the water. He also provides entertainment to millions of people each year with his show on the cable channel Animal Planet. He is the host of the show River Monsters. This show educates people about how to treat and handle animals and be safe with them.

During my high school career I plan to take as many classes of science that I can fit in my schedule. Also I plan on taking 4 years of English, mathematics, and science. During college I hope to obtain a degree in biology or marine biology. Also during college I would like to minor in auto mechanics and possibly theoretical sciences. During my life I hope to discover new creatures both aquatic and not. Also I want to educate others about them so that they can also protect them.
