Jolanda Ceplak

My hero is Jolanda Ceplak, an athlete. She is the world record holder for the 800m indoor race.

She was born on 12 September, 1977 in Celje. When she was six years old, her family moved to Velenje. Even as a little girl she participated in different competitions and she often won.

She achieved many great successes, and also the national record. Her most successful season was 2002. She beat the local favourite and set the indoor world record. In the same year she became a European champion in Munich. Her greatest successes:

3rd place - European Indoor Championships 2007 in Birmingham (800 m)

3rd place City in the Olympic Games in Athens 2004 – (800 m)

2nd place in the World Indoor Championships 2004 in Budapest (800 m)

1st place in the European Indoor Championships 2002 in Vienna (world record) (800 m)

1st place in the European Championship 2002 in Munich (800 m)

3rd place in the City World Cup 2002 in Madrid (800 m)

5th place in the World Indoor Championships 2001 in Lisbon (800 m)

4th place in the European Indoor Championships 2000 in Gent (800 m)

3rd place in the European Youth Championship 1995 in Hungary (1500 m)

She has a boyfriend, and he even proposed to her on TV! And now, they are married. But they do not have any kids yet. She is currently 33 years old (2009) and she does not want to quit her career because she loves her job, and she says that she will achieve new goals that lie ahead. Now she lives in Monaco.

Jolanda is not my hero because I love sports or athletics. She is my hero because she has achieved so much with the help of her will, and I really admire such people.
