Jacques Cousteau

by Jacqueline from Cedar Grove

Do you know who your hero is? Many people can be hero. Heroes can be smart, trustful, and kind. A hero can invent something or even be an important leader, like a president. My hero is Jacques Cousteau. He is from France and he was an oceanographer.

My hero is Jacques Cousteau. He was born on June 11, 1910 and he died on June 25, 1997, two weeks after his 87th birthday. He lived in France for all of his life. At the age of twenty-three, he joined the Navy as a gunnery officer. He was in an accident that made him become a swimmer to make his arms stronger. He always loved the water and loved to swim.

My hero Jacques Cousteau dreamed of being able to dive freely! In 1943, he made an underwater breathing machine called the “Aqua Lung”. He has published fifty books. He became president of the French Oceanographic Campaign in 1950. During World War II, Cousteau did a lot of under water photography. He took pictures of shipwrecks.

There are many qualities that make up a hero. Some qualities that make Jacques Cousteau are that he is smart and a leader. Jacques Cousteau is a brave person because he went to explore. He is smart because he mad a ship called The Calypso and other inventions. He is a leader because he became President of the French oceanographic campaigns and director of the oceanographic Museum of Monaco. These are the qualities that Jacques Cousteau has.

A hero is a special person. Jacques Cousteau is a special man. He was an excellent oceanographer. He made a ship called The Calypso and has published many books. Jacques Cousteau is special to me because we both love the water. Heroes like Jacques Cousteau are good people to look up to.
