Babe Ruth once said, “Heroes will get remembered but legends will never die.” This quote fits Joe DiMaggio because Joe was a legend. Joe was a legend because he did so many great things in his baseball career. Some great things that he did are hit three home runs in one game; he also hit a cycle which is a single, double, triple, and a home run in one game. These are great things because not a lot of people could do that in those days. Joe DiMaggio was a legend in baseball who paved the way for later heroes such as Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez.

Joe DiMaggio was born on November 25, 1914. His parents were Rosalie and Giuseppe Paolo DiMaggio. Giuseppe Paolo was a fisherman in Italy. When they made enough money they moved to the United States. Joe started school in California when he was in tenth grade. He dropped out of high school. A year after dropping out of high school, Joe signed with a minor league team called the San Francisco Seals at the age of 17.

When Joe was 19 years old, two years after signing with the Seals, he signed with the New York Yankees. Five years after playing with the Yankees, Joe got married to Dorothy Arnold. Joe thought she was the one, but Dorothy and Joe got a divorce in 1944. In the years of 1943-1945, Joe didn’t play baseball. He served in World War two. After Joe served in the World War he found another woman. He married and divorced Marilyn Monroe in 1954.

During Joe DiMaggio’s career he had a giant 56 game hitting streak. His streak went from May 15th , 1941 to July 17th, 1941. He played in 11 All Star games and ten World Series, played in 1,736 games and had 6,821 at bats. Joe had 1,390 runs and 2,214 hits. He hit 389 doubles, 131 triples, and 361 home runs, and 1,537 RBIs and had 30 stolen bases. In Joe’s career, he signed a $100,000 contract for the American League. He hit two home runs in one inning, he holds numerous batting records.

Joe DiMaggio had quite a few of accomplishments in his career. He won three MVP awards, and hit two home runs in one inning. DiMaggio hit three home runs in one game. Joe was elected in to the Hall of Fame in 1955. He was announced the Greatest Player Ever Living in 1969. From the years of 1968-1969 he was the coach and vice president of the Oakland A’s. In 1976 he received a U.S. Medal of Freedom from President Ford. In 1980 Joe was named to the Baltimore Oriole Board of Directors.
