My hero is skateboarder Jerry Hsu. He is my hero because he perseveres. Jerry has had a passion about skating since 1992, when he first started. Jerry skates “street”, which is when you go around skating in the street looking for some good spots to get footage or pictures. It takes guts to skate in people’s yards and in the middle of the street and sometimes you end up getting hit or thrown out of people's yards. Some of his early influences are bad because he got involved in gangs. Jerry thinks being pro is good because of the free stuff he gets and just being able to skate with other pros like Paul Rodriguez. He got on Emerica by a personal friend who told Emerica about him and they said get some good footage. His favorite skater of all time is Tino Razo. It takes a lot of courage to go to a team leader and give them your footage without knowing what he’s going to say.
Jerry Hsu was born December 17, 1981 in San Jose, California. His present house is in Spanky’s mansion is California and he is single. Hsu started to skate in 1992 at the age of 11. It was a gang initiation thing. His magazine coverage is stills, preferably. His video coverage is about 150 tries at least.

Jerry doing a crazy trick (www.theskeit.com) |
Jerry Hsu’s Internet coverage is by Patrick O’Dell. When he first started to skate he had a 2 x 4 and flat piece of wood for a little ramp. He doesn’t like skating in contests. He thinks it is good to be pro and there is no bad thing about being pro.
Jerry really enjoys shooting video parts. He skates small stuff like curbs and parking bumps exclusively; he doesn’t skate vert. His future goal is to floss every night. These are his friends on the team: Aaron Suski, Andrew Reynolds, Brandon Westgate, and Braydon Szafranski, etc. His stance is goofy but he is a righty which means he stands like a lefty.
Jerry Hsu is a hero because he inspires kids and some adults for the action he takes in skateboarding. It is very hard to learn how to skateboard. It is very hard to learn how to ride a skateboard because you need to know how to push when you are moving and sometimes you will fall. You can Ollie by sliding your foot forward and pushing down on the tail of the board to pop it up. Hsu started to skate at a young age which is very hard to get the feel and skill for skateboarding. If you’ve never skated before, you will be able to tell when your footing feels right. If it feels wrong, switch stances. You’ll know when the stance is right by the feel of the board and by the feel on your feet. It takes a long time to get the feel of the board, and even professionals like Jerry had to go through it. As they say, you need to be the board to ride a board and skate like a pro.
