by Jake from DuBois

A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.

In honor of Jackie Robinson, I did research about this hero in “Biography Today”. I chose Jackie Robinson because he is an amazing sports player, at every sport. After the research, I was glad I did because I learned so much about him.

Who knew such a normal beginning would give the world such a hero? Jack Roosevelt Robinson was born on January 31, 1919, in Cairo, Georgia. His parents’ names were Jerry and Mallie Robinson. Jackie married Rachael Isum, they were married for 26 years. They had three kids Jackie JR. Sharon, and David

The foundation of heroism is education. Jackie Robinson went to Cleveland Elementary School and Washington Elementary School in Pasadena. Then he moved to Washington Junior High School in 1931. Four years later, he enrolled at John Muir Technical High School. At John Jackie Muir’s High School Jackie participated, and excelled in many sports but he was a “hard loser” as his friends from high school said. He would cry over a loss! Jackie graduated high school in January 1937. Then he immediately enrolled at Pasadena Junior College. Because of his amazing sport abilities, he received a great deal of attention from many major college programs. As the quarterback of the football team, he led the team to an unbeaten season of football. Then he moved to the University of California-Los Angeles where he was given a football scholarship. He became the first man to play all the four main sports, football, basketball, baseball, and track, and he was amazing at all of them.

Hard work contributes to heroism. Jackie was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 and was the first black player in Major League Baseball in the modern era. "Breaking the color barrier" is why Jackie Robinson was famous and still is in our minds. He was also famous for his amazing sport abilities in every sport. Then when Jackie left his last year of college to go work and make money for his family, he got drafted into World War II.

Jackie Robinson is important to mankind and changed the world because Jackie made it possible for any black man to play in the major leagues instead of the Negro leagues (which is totally racist if you ask me). Jackie also made it possible for any black man to have “some” rights against racism.
