Jackie Robinson

by Benjamin from Glenbrook Middle School

“A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.” J Robinson

My name is Ben Robinson and my hero is Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia. Jackie Robinson is my hero because he broke the baseball color line. "As the first black man to play major league baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers, he was instrumental in bringing an end to the racial segregation in baseball."

The heroic characteristics of my hero are bravery, strength, courage, seriousness, intelligence and leadership. Jackie Robinson also "was selected for six consecutive All-Star Games from 1949 to 1954, was the recipient of the inaugural MLB Rookie of the Year award in 1947, and won the National League Most Valuable Player Award in 1949 - the first black player so honored. Robinson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962. "

Jackie Robinson is brave because even though he couldn’t play on a white baseball team and people didn’t like it, he showed courage and played on the team to prove that blacks can play on a white baseball team. What makes Jackie Robinson a hero is that when he began playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, he broke the color line for professional baseball and paved the way for the entry of black players into all professional sports.

One of the challenges that Jackie Robinson faced was going to school in California, which was a state that subjected blacks to segregation. He also faced trying to get his anger out but got it out by playing sports. The biggest problem he faced was trying to show the world the blacks can play in white professional sports. Jackie Robinson met these challenges by going to school in California where he wasn’t really friendly to others because others thought he was harmful.

He met his challenges by also joining the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. Although whites didn’t like him playing on the team, he didn’t get scared by the whites and continued playing for the team with courage. Jackie Robinson has changed many people’s lives and the world of baseball. Both are the same because he made everyone in the world see that black players can play sports just as well as the white players. Jackie Robinson is considered a hero because he changed the way people looked at baseball forever by letting blacks play in sports with whites. Jackie Robinson is also important to society because he showed the young and the old that despite skin color, everyone is the same and that they can do anything together.

So Jackie Robinson made a big improvement to the world when he was alive. In conclusion, Jackie Robinson is my hero because he changed the sport we call baseball.
