My hero is a well known musician called Jack Hody Johnson. He was born in 1975 near Haleiwa, Hawaii. His father was a famous surfer called Jeff Johnson so naturally Jack was interested in surfing at a young age. Jack began surfing the fierce Pipeline at the age of 10. By 17, he was in the finals at the Pipe Trials. Jack suffered a nearby death experience at the age of 17 by crashing his body against the reef during the Pipeline Masters. When he was recovering he got interested in filmmaking and soon became a surf film editor.
Jack loved nature and loved to protect it. He was also an earth keeper because he loved animals and plants so he didn’t want them to die. He contributed to many festivals like Kokua Festival, Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund and the Red Cross. His songs talk about Hawaii and how it will stay beautiful and amazing if we take care of it. Jack’s tour bus works on bio-diesel fuel, a fuel that is safe for the environment. He goes from school to school to talk to kids how to take care of the environment.
Jack Johnson raised a lot of money for the Red Cross after Hurricane Katrina. In total he raised more than $120.000 preparing many musical shows and surf competitions. He gave all the money to the Kokua Foundation.
Jack Johnson began writing songs during his college years, having played the guitar since he was 14 years old. One day a man called G. Love was introduced to Jack to go and surf and they ended up recording Jack’s first professional song ¨Rodeo Clowns¨ for his last album.
I think Jack is a hero because he helped many helpless people and the Red Cross which helps the people who had been in a natural disaster. He also helps children and tries to prevent the Global Warming so our environment doesn’t break up.
