Jason McCartney became a hero to the nation in the wake of the Bali bombings and shows the Australian fighting spirit for glory. His story is one of many overcoming stories. Jason, a normal Australian with a great talent to play AFL, was thrown into the hearts and minds of many Australians through his courageous comeback from horrible burns to 50% of his body that he sufferd in Bali.

Jason is a member of the 200 game club (AFL). After his triumphant comeback he married his long time girlfriend Nerrisa. Jason won the order of Australian medal for victoria in the Australian of the year awards. In jasons long time carrer he played for the Magpies, the Crows and finaly the Kangaroos.
The 12th of October 2003 was a memorable day for one footballer. On an end of season trip to Bali,Jason was relaxing with friends at Paddy's Bar the suddenly a large explosion erupted ripping through the inside of the bar killing 202 people 88 of them being Australian. Jason sufferd burns to 50% of his body. He was in a cirtical condition when the doctors saw him. He was treated in Bali then came back home to start a prolonged series of skin graphs and operations to help him get back to his former life. Because his burns were so bad he had to wear peressure bands all of the time during his painful recovery.

On the 06/6/03 Jason made his long awaited comeback to the game he loved... AFL. It was a full house his first and last game since Bali. The Kangaroos and even the tiger supporters were cheering for himas he enterd the ground. Jason played a key role in the 3 point win over the Tigers,he scored 1 goal and set-up the winning goal. Jason was chaired off by his team mates at the end of the game and the crowed burst out with cheers for him. After the match Jason announced his retierment to all the AFL fans.
