A hero is a person who people look up to. They have set a good example, or overcame their own life challenges, and became successful at what they do. My hero is Derek Jeter. Derek Jeter is strong, devoted, and a superior athlete. Derek Jeter wanted to be on the New York Yankees since he was 8 years old. He stuck with his dream and became one of the best players on the Yankees. Derek Jeter represents to me what I can do with my life if I follow me dreams and work hard.

Derek Jeter was born on June 26, 1974 in Pequannock, NJ. He began playing tee-ball at the age of 5. Derek has always been a Yankee fan, and he idolized Dave Winfeild. Dave Winfeild was an outfielder for the Yankees. Ever since he was 8 years old, Derek Jeter also had full support from his parents. His parents never gave up on him, and always pushed him to work harder, and be better. Hard work, dedication, and support is what got him to where he is now.

The first goal Derek Jeter set was to make it to the Little League All-Star Team. He then moved on to become a star baseball player at Kalamazoo High School in Michigan. In High School he got the Gatorade High School Player of the Year award. Afterwards, Jeter went on to Major League Baseball on the New York Yankees in 1995. Derek is a short stop on the Yankees and is one of the most valuable players on the New York Yankees.

Jeter is also one of the best known players in baseball. He has made many honorable plays as a shortstop, that have given him Player of the Year awards. He is a fan favorite for the Yankees, and is the team captain. Jeter has a 22 million dollar salary, and is ranked one of the most marketable players in baseball. Jeter has a .317 batting average. This is the amount of hits divided by the amount of times at bat. The Yankees are the only team Derek Jeter has ever played on. He is currently the most senior member of the Yankees. That goes to show you what hard work and dedication can get you.

Derek Jeter has started a charity organization called Turn 2. The goal of this organization is to keep kids and teens away from drugs and alcohol. It also rewards students with high academic achievements. Derek Jeter has also made many TV and commercial appearances. Jeter is a representative of Nike, and has been on the cover of many baseball video games. He has also a whole website dedicated to him, on his website he has pictures, stats, a biography, and more information on the Turn 2 program.

I think Derek Jeter is a good person to look up to, and a good hero. He has followed his dreams and did what he dreamt about doing since age 8. By working with his foundation, Turn 2, he is also trying to get kids and teens to do the same, and to stay away from drugs. That is why Derek Jeter is my hero.
