Kyle Carpenter

by Brent from Poquoson

Blessed by the Lord my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle.(Kyle's tattoo)

Semper Fi. Kyle Carpenter lives this motto. A hero is someone that is an inspiration. Kyle Carpenter is my hero because he is brave, skilled, and strong. Kyle Carpenter won the Medal of Honor and the Purple Heart. His heroic action was that he jumped in front of a hand grenade and saved a fellow Marine.

William Kyle Carpenter was born October 17, 1989 in Jacksonville, Mississippi. He went to high school at W. Wyman King Academy in Batesburg, South Carolina. He graduated in 2008. In February of 2009, he enlisted into the USMC at Paris Island, North Carolina. He was in Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines.

At the time of his deployment, in 2010 in Afghanistan, he was a Lance Corporal. Kyle jumped in between a hand grenade and another Marine. He and the other marine were hurt very badly. Kyle lost one of his eyes and has very bad scars left on his body. The other man lost his speaking ability and he is now in a wheel chair. They both are medically retired.

He was brave because he threw himself in between the grenade and a fellow Marine. He was skilled because he got a medal for being a skilled sharpshooter. He was strong because he put himself through all the pain of going in front of the grenade and recovering through the bad times.

Kyle is my hero because he shows that he will give his life up for others, including his country. He is an inspiration because I want to be a marine who is not scared to die because I will know I'm doing it for the people I love and for my country. Kyle showed an act of heroism and I respect him very, very much.
