The My Hero essay is here to help us understand about our heroes and other heroes. In this hero essay I will be telling you about my hero, Kyrie Irving. He is a point guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He first started out at Montclair Kimberley Academy for his first two years of high school, where he averaged 27 points and 13 rebounds in his sophomore year, and he led his team to its first title. Short after his second season he transferred to St. Patrick's High School. There he wasn't the best on the team because they were already a powerhouse but he soon came to be one of the most respected players on the team. He even went from top 90 high school players to top five in two years. Then he became a Blue Devil at Duke University. He had a nice run, but in his first year he twisted ligaments in his right big toe and couldn't play for three months. But he still went right back and played three full NCAA games showing that yes, he may have been hurt, but he wasn't so hurt that he couldn't play. When he was drafted he was drafted number one overall in the first round of the NBA draft. He always is giving back to the community, when he was hurt he never gave up, and has so much determination. Kyrie Irving is my hero.

On Kyrie's off season of his first year, he went to Africa to help the less fortunate. He helped the poor build houses and even gave them shoes and clothes to wear. He held basketball clinics and he did really anything he could to help them. He went to primary and secondary schools while he was in Africa. He helped five and six year olds, with their art projects and even taught some gym classes while he was there. When he left, he gave out lots of things like clothes, shoes, and even bought some kids enough food for many days. Kyrie has done many more amazing things for the world but i think this is is one of the biggest and most respectful things he's done.

Imagine with me you're Kyrie Irving, it's the first game of the NBA finals you're driving down the court going for a simple tac five play. (Kyrie drives to the basket and passes it back out to a teammate for three points) Klay Thompson guards you suddenly, you try to drop down to do a spin move to get away from him. But something goes wrong, you land on your knee weirdly and at the same time you both hit knees. There's a sharp pain in your knee, turns out you fractured your knee cap. You can't train with the team for 2 weeks until you get surgery for your knee so you take matters into your own hands. You find out ways to train even before your surgery. Then the surgery comes and it's successful. You can start physical therapy in another two weeks, but that can't happen so you start physical therapy five days after the surgery. Nothing too hard but just the right things to do for you. In your offseason you wake up at 6 a.m. and do physical therapy for two hours before the team practice at 10 a.m. At the start of the season you can't play for 23 full games but you can still help the team improve even when you can't play with them. This paragraph hopefully tells you how bad Kyries drive for basketball really is.

Even when he injured his knee cap he had more determination than many people on his team to win the playoffs. Many people started making very false accusations that he would take a break from basketball for a while to get over his injury, but he put those rumors in the garbage and came back like a shooting star. He scored 35 points in his first game back in the regular season! During the first game of the playoffs "Kyrie Irving scored 31 points on 10-of-24 shooting for the first game playoffs five boards, six assists, five 3-pointers, two steals, one block and just one turnover in 38 minutes" in the first game of the playoffs. You can tell he is saying that his team is winning the finals this year and he's not going down with an injury. Even in possibly the worst point in his career Kyrie had more determination than anyone had ever seen him have, the only thing he was trying to tell you was that his determination level is way above almost anyone you know.

Kyrie never gave up even in one of his worst times of his career with his knee injury. People thought he would never play basketball again but you know what Kyrie said, Kyrie said this year he's coming out better than ever. Kyrie is always helping people any way he can, even if it's just seeing some kids eyeing his shoes through the window and he buys the shoes for the kids. Or if it's traveling halfway across the world to help kids in school with their art projects and give them some knowledge of the game of basketball and life, and helping them build big houses so that many boys and girls can stay there. Sometimes, even his teammates say for such a little guy he has so much determination. He came back better than ever from an injury that could've possibly destroyed his career. The main point of this essay is to show you why Kyrie Irving is my hero because he never gave up, has a lot of determination, and is always giving back to the community.
