Kunta Kinteh

Kunta Kinteh was a West African slave from Gambia. He was born in 1750 in Mandinka village of Juffure. His grandmother laughed in joy that day. He was the first born son of his dad Omoro and his mom Binta. Eight days later at the naming ceremonies they Alimamo prayed over the infant, entreating Allah to grant him with a long life. Then he became a Muslim and adapt the Mandinka religion. He was a Mandinka warrior in his village in Gambia.. His dad was chief of his Mandinka of the Mandinka tribe.

One day Kunta was going to go get wood for his Mandinka tribe. As he was doing that a group of men surrounded him. He didn't have anywhere to hide or run. The group of men caught him and brought him to the Gambia River. There he waited with 98 other Gambians. After they docked them they sailed to the United States. They arrived in Annapolis. Kunta became a slave there but was not going to stop for his freedom. Kunta attempted to escape three times. It got to the point the slave owners had to slave him. They sold Kunta to a slave owner name John Waller.

John Waller was a mean slave owner. He had changed Kunta's name to Toby Waller but Kunta refused to use that name. He was beaten he until he said his name was Toby. After a few hours Kunta took the name. He still was upset but he had enough of getting beaten. After a few more attempts of escaping the slave owners gave Kunta a choice. He took the choice to get his right foot cut. That still didn't stop him, he still refused to talk to people. He always remembered about his home in Gambia.

Kizzy

Many years later Kunta started to be social with other slaves. He even married a slave woman named Bella Waller. They even had a daughter named Kizzy Keisa, in Mandinka. He taught her lots about his Mandinka religion. His daughter's name in Mandinka means to ''Stay put''. He named her that so she wouldn't be sold. When she was in her late teens she was sold to North Carolina, when the master finds out she wrote a fake pass for a young slave boy whom she was in love with. She learned how to write secretly by Missy Anne. When she gets to North Carolina the new slave owner rapes her. He fathers her only child. They gave him a tag name called Chicken George because they made him cockfighting birds.

Kizzy mostly stays in North Carolina working in the farm. She goes back to Annapolis to go visit. When she goes back she finds out her mom was sold. Her dad died to two years ago of a broken heart, in 1822. She goes and finds his grave. She marks out his slave name, and puts his real name. When she goes back to North Carolina she continues with her life. She still remembers her mom and dad. In Gambia they never forgot about Kunta. He has his own island and you can go visit it too in Gambia. They have many statues of him.
