What defines a hero? Is it one that possesses courage that can stand up to the greatest of warriors? Is it a person that has strength that can move mountains? Is it one that everyone seems to admire? The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a hero as a figure endowed with great strength or ability or one that shows great courage. My definition of a hero is simply one who decides to do what is right. Yes, it takes courage and a strong faith. But more importantly, the choices a hero makes can change a life.

Krystal Meyers fits my definition of a hero. She was born in July 13, 1988 and is presently an acclaimed American Christian rock singer and musician. From California, she moved to Franklin, Tennessee. She has been writing her own songs since she was only ten years old and she learned how to play the acoustic guitar by the age of thirteen. In 2005, her first self-titled album was released when she was only sixteen years of age. Since then, her career in music enabled her to grow as a person. She then released two other groundbreaking albums that hit the charts up high and her music inspired people all over the world.

One thing that stands out in Krystal is her resolute belief to be a non-conformist. She believes that we should all be different from the way the world lives. Instead of giving in to peer-pressure, we should all take a stand for what is right. All of her music encourages people, especially teenagers, to be who they should be and not what the world wants them to be. In one her influential songs, she has made a statement to be an “Anticonformist.”

Unlike many artists today, Krystal keeps in mind her platform as a good influence. From what I see, she has done just that. She does admit that she is not perfect because no one on this earth will ever be close. But, she tries her very best to live the life she should live by the help of bible study and pouring her heart out into her music. She always gives a positive message to her listeners. But more importantly, she wants to glorify the One who gave her the talent she possesses to the fullest extent possible. She tells her listeners to find their identity in God instead of society.

Krystal Meyers is one who does not do things by the terms of others. She’s not afraid to make some noise. She quotes, “You can be cool! You can have fun, but you can also make a positive impact. You're not just walking around this earth with nothing to offer. I promise you, you have something to give to the world. Everyone does. So go on and make some noise!” She celebrates the moments of freedom and encourages everyone to do so. She does things to do what I believe a hero should do. She has made an impact in my life and I’m sure she has made an impact in the lives of others as well. I consider her one of the greatest role models of our time and I have been reminded to seek the things of above. I am greatly encouraged by her music and will continue to be in the years to come. Because of Krystal, I am willing to be a hero and take a stand for “anticonformity.”
