I'm going to write about Krystyna Skarbek also known as Christine Granville who was a Polish agent of the British Special Operations Executive (SOE) during the Second World War.

Krystyna was born on the first May in 1908 and died on June 15th in 1952.
She was born in Warsaw, Poland, and had one brother Andrew. Her father was Polish and his mother Jewish. She spent her childhood in a wealthy area before her father wasted his money on bad things.

She spent a good time with her father and he taught her skiing, which was very useful during her missions.

When she was 22 years old, her dad died. Some years after when she was 30 years old she married a young businessman, Gustaw Gettlich, which was a disaster. One day, when she was skiing, Krystyna lost control and was saved by the one who became her second husband Jerzy Gizycki in 1938.

She became heroic later when Germany invaded Poland in 1939. When that happened she returned with her husband in London and decided to help to fight the adversary. The London service accepted her help thanks to her relationships.

In 1940 she went to Hungry where she participated in a mission and met an ally, Andrzej Kowersky. With him in 1941, when they were arrested by the Gestapo, Krystyna used her talent of stratagem by pretending to have tuberculosis and so she succeeded in freeing them.

After that, she went to Egypt and was arrested many times. Fortunately, she was released a few days later.

Then she was obliged to stop for awhile her services.

It was in 1944 when Krystyna resumed her services and made her most famous exploits.
Speaking very good French she was solicited by SOE French section to replace a messenger under the nickname 'Christine Grandville'. Then she realized many missions that were a success!

In November, when she visited the Polish headquarters in uniform, she was treated by the military leaders with great respect. She achieve her missions on May 14th 1944.

Unfortunately, in 1952, she was stabbed by a man she had rejected for his advances.

She became a legend, thanks to her determination and courage to confront the adversary.
She inspired many authors, like Ian Fleming in James Bond, to represent a brave woman.
Other people and I think that, thanks to her, the SOE recruited more women after
she showed that women can do a good job, even a dangerous job.
Today, when I typed in the internet 'war hero', I immediately found her name.

People are considered as heroes for many reasons. Some for their bravery or courage, as in their actions to save lives or when participating in revolution. That's what I'm going to talk about here, a woman who was considered a hero.
