Kenny Slaughter Sr., my father, was born in 1960. He is a strong and courageous human being. My father is from Union, Mississippi and attended Union High School. After graduating from high school, he attended Mississippi Valley State for Criminal Justice.
Klansmen from Union tried to shoot Kenny at age 24 while he was going to MS Valley State. After the attempted murder, my father was almost run off the road by another Klansman while driving on the highway. In spite of the attempted murders Daddy still moved on with his life. He graduated from Valley State and decided to attend Antioch School of Law in Washington D.C. Daddy received his law degree and began his career at Bill Reedy's law firm in Meridian, MS.
My dad got married to my mother, Mattie Slaughter, during his years in Washington while in law school. They decided to move back to MS and had my brother, Kenny Charles Slaughter Jr. and me a few years later. In 1991 at age 31 my daddy and brother had a vehicle accident in Greenwood, MS. Kenny Sr. broke his neck and had to wear a neckbrace for months.
After becoming a lawyer Kenny was elected to become a judge in Decatur, MS. He liked the new career he had built. My father never complained about the position. He helped people like Judge Monroe of Decatur and enjoyed working with other lawyers.
Kenny is now working on the East Coast in Washington D.C. He is practicing law and working on cases. Working in Washington D.C. with a different atmosphere of people has changed his perspective on life. My father is now encountering some old professors and classmates. Daddy has been welcomed to the good life.
Kenny is my role model because of his courage and strength. He is a person of great morals. I admire his life and manhood. He has experienced a lot of great things in his life. My daddy is my amazing role model.
