"If I was you, and I'm not saying that I am, I would definitely get tattooed by Kat. I know I am--I mean come on." -Kore Flatmo

I first became aware of Kat von D when my brother introduced me to the show, Miami Ink. Previous to seeing the show, I had always been interested in art and tattoos and I loved drawing. So when I found out about this new tattoo show, I was basically ecstatic. I started watching it every time it came on. I then grew to love one of the stars of the show, Kat von D. I was attracted to her the most because of how cool she was when customers would come in to get tattooed. She acted like she’d known them for years, even though it was her first time seeing them in her life. She was always very laid back and chill, which is what I loved about her the most. She also has her crazy side, which is good too. She definitely knows how to have fun and when to be serious.

Kat von D is a professional tattoo artist. As well as being a brilliant artist, Kat has her own show called LA Ink. She started LA Ink after moving from Miami, where she was on the show Miami Ink, to LA. She has a waiting list for her tattoos that exceeds one year. At her shop, High Voltage Tattoo, they accept walk-ins as well. Most tattoo artists do not do formal training, but rather learn through apprenticeship. That is what Kat von D did. She received training from many people, including one of the starts of Miami Ink, Chris Garver. The best tattoo artists are both mechanically and artistically trained. Knowledge of antiseptic procedures is a very crucial part of being a tattoo artist to avoid the risk of infection. There are also various art schools you can attend to pursue a career as a tattoo artist. Their salary can vary greatly depending on how good or popular of a tattoo artist you are. Kat von D is a multi-millionaire, but her show LA Ink is a big part in her salary.

As a young person, Kat von D was very open minded and outgoing. She loved her family and loved meeting new people. She was also very artistic. She drew pictures all the time. At the age of fourteen she got her first tattoo, an old-English J on her ankle. She then decided that she wanted to be a tattoo artist. The first tattoo she ever did was the Misfits skull. After that she grew into the amazing tattoo artist she is today. She has been tattooing for eleven years.

Kat von D helps people in many ways. For her show, they pick the most meaningful and emotional tattoos to show on television. When people are going through hard times, such as the loss of a friend or family member, Kat gives them beautiful tattoos in remembrance of the ones they love. I once saw an episode where a girl had lost her baby to sudden infant death syndrome. Kat tattooed a picture of the baby on the inside of the girl’s bicep, because that was where she used to hold her baby. While she was tattooing, Kat von D talked the mother through it and was very kind and considerate to her the whole time. Times like that are the valuable opportunities that come along with the art of tattooing.

As a child I was very artistic and I am still now. I will use this ability I have been given to work my way up to becoming a tattoo artist. In high school I will pay more attention to tattoos and take some art classes to better my skills. I will go to college and get a degree in fine arts or something like that. Maybe I will find an apprenticeship program with someone who is really at tattooing who will train me and help me reach my goal of becoming an amazing tattoo artist as well. After many years of training and lots of learning, I will hopefully get a nice job at an awesome tattoo shop and pursue my career for a long time.
