Did you ever wonder if a basketball player could score more than 50 points in a game? Well, it has been done by a handful of players including Kobe Bryant. He scored 81 points. He is the current highest scorer playing in the NBA. Kobe was born on August 23, 1978 in Philadelphia. Kobe’s father was a pro basketball player too; his name is Joe “Jellybean” Bryant. My hero is the best basketball player because he is athletic, thoughtful and devoted.

Kobe Bryant is athletic because he led the Lakers to 3 NBA championships. Kobe is athletic because he can beat double teams and dunk over tall people, and can score a lot. Most people (adults who liked the Lakers) remember the time when Kobe scored 81 points in a game, putting him behind Wilt Chamberlain. Kobe is good at shooting and can make buzzer shots.

Kobe is devoted because he practices with the Lakers on plays and never wants to miss a game. And another example is that he passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the Lakers all time scoring list, putting Kobe behind Jerry West on the list. Kobe was drafted after high school then he went straight to the NBA. He was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets at 18. He got traded to the Lakers. In 2002 he was named the All-Star game’s most valuable player.

Kobe is thoughtful because he goes to the Make-A-Wish Foundation so kids can meet him. He is thoughtful because he signs autographs and takes pictures. Kobe is thoughtful because on April 11, 2010 he let Pau Gasol take the last three of the game against the Portland Trailblazers. Kobe is thoughtful because he gave Trevor Ariza his championship ring when he was at Houston. Kobe brought home the 2009 NBA championship to Los Angeles.

The reason I chose Kobe Bryant is because he is the best of the best basketball players, His nickname is the Black Mamba. In China he is called the Little Flying Warrior. China calls him that because he is able to shoot and dunk just like Lebron James. Kobe’s dad played for the Golden State Warriors.
