Kevin Everett has many talents like playing football but Kevin wasn’t exactly a hero for being good on the field. Kevin is mostly a hero because he was paralyzed on the opener game of the Buffalo Bills’ 2007 season. Kevin had a huge recovery. He was paralyzed from neck down, but from the help of therapy, Kevin is now walking.
Kevin’s early life wasn’t what every kid wants. He never met his real father so he was raised by his mother’s father Junior. Junior taught Kevin about life and told Kevin how to behave. Junior was also Kevin’s idol. Kevin was good in school. For high school he went to Jefferson High School. Kevin was very responsible at home because his parents were divorced so he was the man of the house. When Kevin graduated high school his family didn’t have enough money to get in a good college and he didn’t have good enough grades. So he came up with a game plan. He would first go to a small college and do really well so he could get a scholarship to go to his dream college, Miami. That is exactly what Kevin did. He first went to Killgore Junior College. When he was finished at Killgore, Kevin went on to play for the Miami Hurricanes. He had a great career there and actually played with Bills teammate, Roscoe Parrish. After his school career he decided to marry his college girlfriend, Wiande. Then he went on to play in the NFL, starting in 2005.
Kevin had many problems from the life threatening hit that nearly left him paralyzed. A lot of people told Kevin that he would never walk again and if he could he wouldn’t walk very far. Even the doctor said it was a life threatening hit. Kevin had a five out of ten percent to have a full, healthy, and a safe recovery. Another problem is when Kevin was a kid he never met his real father so that could have affected his early life and his football life like never watching their favorite team or throwing a football in their backyard. When Kevin was going to college Kevin couldn’t go to Miami because of his bad grades in English. Also, when Kevin got to Miami he had to spend some time in the weight room just like at Jefferson High School and Killgore Junior College. So Kevin might had some problems, but he was successful.
Kevin had to do a lot to have a full recovery. He couldn’t give up in the hospital and that inspired a lot of people. After a while in the rehab center in Houston Kevin again didn’t give up when he was only taking small steps when he wanted to walk normally. Kevin also helped his mother when he was a teenager when he didn’t have to. He would help take care of his younger stepsisters. Kevin also didn’t give up because he wanted to be able to walk on his 2009 wedding with Wiande.
Kevin has got a couple awards but he got some big awards. Kevin just stood out a lot more when he was paralyzed. In the 2008 ESPY awards Kevin won an ESPY for his recovery, which was the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance. Kevin also got two awards when he was younger. When he was in junior college Kevin got on the first-team All-Southwest Conference honors and he also did so well in Killgore he got a small scholarship to Miami. Now you can see Kevin had some big awards
As you can see Kevin Everett is a true hero for his talents on the field but also for his recovery.
