RADEN AJENG KARTINI

Raden Ajeng Kartini, was a daughter of Jepara’s regency, Raden Mas Aditia Sosrodiningrat. Kartini was born at 21th April 1879 at Majong, Jepara. Kartini was the emancipation hero of Indonesian women. She had a goal to improve the education of Indonesian women so they could get rights the same with men.

Her hobby was reading and she always compared Indonesian women with Europe women about education progress.

Kartini got married with Raden Adipati Joyodiningrat, Regency of Rembang. Her husband understood her goals and built a school for Indonesian women. First she built on her own house which was Kartini’s School. Then she built again Kartini’s School on the other place. Just like, Semarang, Yogya, Solo, Malang, etc.

In her young time, Kartini diligently wrote a letter to her friend in Nederland. A compilation of that letter, then released to be a book titled “Habis Gelap Terbitlah Terang”. Not yet enjoying the result, Kartini died at the age of 25 years old at 17th of September 1904. And on 21 April we always celebrate Kartini’s day.
