Stephen King

A hero to me is someone who you can look up to. Someone who sets a model for the way you want to be. My hero is one of the best authors of all time, Stephen King. Stephen wanted to be a writer since he was young. He had some hardships along the way, and yet he still came out to write some of the best books in literary history. He is my inspiration in my aspiration to become a successful author.

When Stephen was a child his father went out to buy cigarettes and never came back. From then on his mother took care of the family. Stephen published a small town newspaper in Maine when he was young. He wrote it with his brother David and they named it Dave's Rag. This was his first real literary accomplishment. From then on his writing career began to flower, although it might have ended when his first novel was rejected for publishing. He didn't take it well, but he kept writing.

Stephen recieved inspiration from the poem by Robert Browning, "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came." From this he began work on his famous "Dark Tower" series. Since he didn't have much money or resources at the time, he couldn't finish it then. After a bit he worked on a story about a girl named Carrietta White, but he decided it wasn't good enough, and he threw it away. His wife Tabitha picked it up and urged him to continue working on it. When it was finished, it was purchased by New American Library for $400,000 dollars. Stephen recieved half of this, and with his funds replenished, he quit his day job to work on writing full time.

Stephen went on to write many more novels, both fiction and non-fiction, and screenplays for movies based on his books. He is one of the most widely appreciated authors in the world, and he is considered the "Master of Horror." His books have been published in 35 countries and 33 languages. Many people think he only writes horror, but it isn't like that at all. He writes all different types of books.

His books are the kind that you pick up and can't put down until you are done. The stories are captivating, and the writing is amazing. He can make you imagine anything. Your worst fears, your deepest secrets. He can bring out on paper everything you have ever been afraid of. And he does it with writing that has ideas and concepts no other writers have. He is a genius.
